                    Gang Outreach Program 

• Outreach Specialists are based in the Sioux City Community Schools (in all middle schools, three elementary schools, and two high schools).
• We have a diverse staff of Outreach Specialists:  Black, Native American, Hispanic, Asian, and Caucasian.
• Youngsters are referred by school staff, school administration, juvenile probation staff, police liaisson officers, DHS, parents, and by Outreach Specialists working in the school.
• Outreach Specialists are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

                     Alternative Suspension Program (ASP)

• The ASP was originally set up in support of the Outreach Program.  Currently it serves all of the Sioux City Community Schools.
• Students (K - 12) are referred by school administration.
• The ASP has three full time teachers and is designed to help youngsters continue their education while placed on out of school suspension.
• It is our goal to have students return to the classroom up to date in each subject and with a better understanding of appropriate school conduct.

REMEMBER:  To settle an argument, think about what is right - not who is right.

 

                                               After School Program

• The After School Program is a drop in program that provides a positive and safe place for youngsters after school.
• The After School Program features:  tutoring, game room activities, computer class, peer groups, sports, and mentorships.

                                                    Work Program

• The Work Program provides work experience for high school students and community service opportunities through mentoring while teaching responsibility, work appropriate behavior, punctuality, people skills, builds self-esteem and decision making skills.

                                            Athletics

• Boys & girls basketball
• Boys & girls soccer
• Emphasizes working with others as a team, sacrifice, athletic skills, work ethic, perseverance, goal setting, trust, hygiene, personal and team pride, social skills, sense of family and community.
• Provides opportunity for travel and a high level of competition.

         Peer Groups:  Boys to Men and Sistas of Many Colors

• Peer groups were developed to help boys and girls become positive, contributing members of society as they grow from adolescents to adults.
• Mentoring program against violence.
• Explore career development.
• Take part in service projects.
• Take part in recreation activities.
• Provide positive role models.

                                      Food Program

• Provides hot meals for youngsters attending the After School Program and Summer Program.

                                    Summer Program

• The Summer Program provides a safe, positive place for elementary youngsters during the summer.
• Program features:  guest speakers, mentoring, field trips, educational classes, arts and crafts, physical fitness activities.

                                        Teen Dances

• Teen Dances provide an early evening activity for middle school students in a safe environment whle teaching appropriate social behaviors and community responsibilities.
• Provides fun and a place to have a good time.
